I am a forty five year old female. I have been sick with stomach trouble for at least nine years. I was having constant stomach pain and both constipation and diarrhea. I went to a Gasteroenterologist in 1996 to see what I could do to feel better. She diagnosed me with IBS, or Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I was given a colonoscopy and it was said to have been normal. On a day to day basis, I suffered from pain and was very frustrated. Dial ahead to the year 2002. I started having severe pain in my upper right side. It was always aftera meal. I went to my regular doctor who I know and trust very much. She had me take an upper GI and a lower GI image study which came up as normal. I then had a CT, or CAT scan which showed the gallbladder to have gravel. She then sent me to a surgeon who removed my gallbladder. That is when the real trouble began. After this surgery the pain in my upper right quadrant never went away. The surgeon kept refilling my pain prescriptions and told me to give it time to heal. I saw him four times after the surgery which was about a four month span. He finally excused me and said I was making this pain up.
I was finally referred to a new gastroenterologist and was excited to see him in hopes they would find a problem and solve it. Who wants to find something wrong? We met and he started with antidepressants and testing. The medication was doing nothing for me, but I continued. His battery of tests included an endoscopy which put me in the hospital for 4 days with pancreatitis. I had a colonoscopy which came back as normal. The gastroenterologist gave me stomach muscle relaxers which I thought took off the edge. By this time I was worried that I have cancer or something else seriously wrong.
I had a hunch that my problems were food related. I never got sick until I ate lunch. I cut out all fatty foods. It seemed that no matter what I tried, I was doomed to suffer indefinitely. One of the girls I work with suggested her chiropractor. I was skeptical from the start. I had been to a different chiropractor before who wanted to uproot my entire life. He wanted me on all sorts of supplements and teas and herbal drinks. He told me I had a black tongue and based on the pigmentation of my skin, I probably was on my way to heart disease. He scared m to death! This is when I felt no hope. I was not really up for it but the girl I work with really talked her chiropractor up. What the heck? What's one more try? So I meet Dr. Jeffrey Kurtz. He's young, bright and very handsome. He takes what seemed like hours going over my history and listening to my stories. He truly seemed interested! I remember the first words out of his mouth as I finished my story, “Lets get this stomach issue under control before we work on anything else.” WOW! He really does care! He started me on a small regimen of supplements and explained why he felt like each and every one of them would help. He also started a series of manipulations to the upper quadrant area of my abdomen. It seemed to relieve pain almost instantly. The relief lasted for a short time but we worked every week to see if we could get longer lasting results. At this time I am still watching all of the fats on my diet. Dr. Kurtz came in one Thursday and said I have a special technique called Total Body Modification in which I would like to treat you. What could this hurt? He has done everything else to help me and did not tell me I was crazy! Almost immediately, he found a very high allergy to Wheat!! WHAT? I have been watching fat and calories and sugary foods? I never watched my wheat intake! He desensitized my body to wheat so it wouldn't react when I came into contact with it. Well that was a month ago and I am 30 days pain free. It is the first time in 8 years I have felt great for a month. I live Gluten free/wheat free lifestyle but live everyday to the fullest because I have no pain. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Kurtz for sticking it out with me and never giving up.
I told a friend about this and she said, maybe you need to ask a REAL doctor about this allergy. I was so insulted! So many people have such a warped perception of what a “real” doctor is. I went to those “real" doctors and all they did was prescribe medications and tell me I was crazy. You are the best! Thank you Doctor Kurtz!! |
